Jamila Holcomb, Ph.D

Dr. Jamila Holcomb is a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in adolescent, adult, family, and trauma therapy. She obtained her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, and her Ph.D. in MFT from Florida State University. Dr. Holcomb is certified in Trauma-Focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and adoption competency. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

 

Using a therapeutic style that is systemic, collaborative and strengths based, Dr. Holcomb’s practice can be described as professional, trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, inviting, and warm. Dr. Holcomb utilizes family systems principles, solution-focused techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-informed interventions to help clients overcome their unique challenges and reach their goals. Dr. Holcomb focuses on her client's innate resiliency and empowers her clients to obtain and utilize resources that produce positive change and healing. Dr. Holcomb is direct, engaging, and displays her genuine care for her client’s wellbeing when helping them reach their full potential.

 

In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Holcomb also provides workshops and trainings on mental health, trauma, culturally sensitive parenting practices, and cultural competency and sensitivity. Dr. Holcomb has also taught several courses at Florida State University in their Family and Child Sciences Department.
